First, I feel I should preface this review with a disclaimer: I am not celiac or gluten-intolerant; so I have quite a bit of experience with the "real thing." But after becoming addicted to the Key Lime White Chocolate (KLWC) GF cookie manufactured by WOW Baking Company, I decided to try a couple other varieties produced by the same company. I purchased both the Snickerdoodle and the Chocolate Chip varieties for comparison. However, the Chocolate Chip variety left a lot to be desired.When it comes to chocolate chip cookies, everybody has their preference. Some people advocate for a crisp chocolate chip cookie with a network of caramelized channels that will draw milk into them when dipped. Others prefer an ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie where the cookie as well as the chips just melt away in your mouth. Still others like a soft, chewy chocolate chip cookie that bursts with chocolaty goodness as you bite into it. Unfornately, none of the above applies to this cookie.Perhaps it is due to its GF recipe, but this cookie has not been designed and baked to give either the dough or the chips any of the qualities mentioned above. The chocolate chips are of a decent quality, but they have not in the slightest melted into the dough. The cookie is soft and moist, much the way a piece of quick bread (e.g., banana bread) might be, but does not have the texture of a regular cookie. It is more like a piece of pound cake with chocolate chips in it.So if you have to stay gluten-free, this is an OK substitute. And if you like cake-like cookies, you're even better off with this one. But this cookie can't compete with its gluten-containing competition.
